SATURDAY SERVICE ACADEMY
On 16 Saturdays throughout the school year, we pair elementary students with high school mentors from across Miami. Together, they read, write, share and laugh- while focusing on the skills and habits of highly successful students and readers.
SUMMER SERVICE ACADEMY
We engage over 320 students in grades 1st-5th in meaningful learning in June and July. Instead of being exposed to summer slide, our students are able to apply concepts and practices to solve real world problems with engagement through technology and innovative instructional practices. Our team of teachers and leaders develop new approaches and refine their practice with daily learning labs and collaborative structures.
UP! Music aims to provide all elementary school students with access to high quality music education with an emphasis on music theory, creation and performance. Students at partner sites engage in daily after school music instruction, practice and performance led by MDCPS teachers and guest faculty. Each week, students perform for their families at a “music meal”. UP! Music seeks to create a scalable model for afterschool programming in music which can support MDCPS programs in the immediate and long term.
MIAMI MENTOR PROGRAM
Each year, Teach For America brings in over 100 talented new teachers as young professionals in the Miami region. The Miami Mentor Program helps them understand the dynamic community they serve as well as empowers them to sustain their tremendous efforts over time. Small groups of TFA alums and corps members are paired with mentors that have deep connections across Miami. Groups meet monthly to support each other, learn about Miami and enjoy what makes Miami a one of a kind place to call home.
INNOVATIVE EDUCATOR FELLOWSHIP
This school year, we are assembling a team of dynamic educators who are eager to innovate, refine best practices, and apply new instructional strategies that cause transformational outcomes for students in their classrooms. Together, our fellows will collaborate, research and explore innovative new practices and apply their learning to raise the bar for what an exceptional classroom leader can achieve.
